The City of Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan Republic, the fifth Russian city by population. Kazan is one of the biggest centers of economics, science, education, cultural and sports events and religion. There is no other city in the entire country where culture of different ages and confessions would interconnect so smoothly.
In the year 2005 the city of Kazan celebrated its millenium. The Kremlin of Kazan is one of 26 UNESCO heritage objects in Russia. The city is well-known around the world not only for vast number of museums, architectural sights, parks and monuments, but also for its countryside landscapes. Kazan is officially declared as the gastronomic capital of Russia. The city can boast of registered brand name "The Third Capital of Russia" related to its enormous popularity among tourists.
In 2013, Kazan hosted the XXVII World Summer Universiade, and in 2018 the FIFA World Cup. The largest international events are taking place in Kazan in 2024:
